Description:

Researchers at NYU Langone Health are studying the impacts of alopecia areata on the risk of developing heart disease. Patients with alopecia areata may be up to a several fold higher risk for heart attack or stroke when compared to those without alopecia areata. This research study aims to investigate this association as a first step toward exploring prevention and treatment options. Participating in this research may provide long-term benefits to other patients with alopecia areata.

Participation will involve an IV insertion, blood draw, and ultrasound of your blood vessels. This baseline appointment should take no more than 2 hours. You may be asked to return for a follow up visit if you are willing.

Participants will be compensated up to $100 for their time and efforts.

You may qualify to participate in this study if you:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Have been diagnosed with alopecia areata
  • Have no history of a heart attack or stroke
