Charlie’s Angels

Charlie’s Angels 2007-2008 Recap

What an inspiring season we have had once again with Charlie Villanueva and the Milwaukee Bucks! We continue to be so grateful for Charlie’s commitment to NAAF, and NAAF hopes to continue to devote the time and resources needed to run the Charlie’s Angels program, as we know it changes lives.

This season, Charlie visited with NAAF children and their families in a record 14 cities! During these visits, Charlie signed autographs, answered questions and posed for photographs. For those of us who have gotten to know Charlie over the years at Meet & Greets and at the NAAF Conference, it sure has been fun watching him turn into a self-confident and self-assured young man. For those who may have only met him this year, it must be exciting to see how contagious his confidence can be. It takes one glance into the eyes of a child meeting Charlie to understand what is going on inside; “if Charlie can do this, so can I!” It is very powerful.

Here is a glimpse into what transpires at a meet & greet by a few of this season’s participants:

This event is very appealing and has a real impact on the children, families and people affected by alopecia areata. ~ Washington Wizards Meet & Greet

The mementos from the evening will hold a special place in the hearts of those struggling from alopecia areata, and will be constant reminders of what they can strive to be. ~ Toronto Raptors Meet & Greet

My son wanted to try to be the most extreme fan, so we painted the top of his head with the Suns logo and all around his head and his cheeks and arms and stuff, and they actually put him on TV and interviewed him. They talked about his meet and greet with Charlie and touched a little on alopecia areata. ~ Phoenix Suns Meet & Greet

One boy was very quiet when we all met and also while sitting courtside waiting for Charlie.  Once Charlie appeared, the little boy lit up with excitement!  It was wonderful to see the impact that one courageous person can have on another person. ~ Philadelphia 76’ers Meet & Greet

We met with Charlie and he was great as usual. I took pics and I think everyone had a good time. I got very nice feed back and I think it was a huge success. ~ New Jersey Nets Meet & Greet

There were quite a few new people at the game and they thought it was so much fun for the kids.  Even if the kids are OK at home, it makes such a difference seeing other kids with  a.a, at different ages and varying level of hair loss.  ~ Minnesota T’wolves Meet & Greet

The children’s faces lit up when they saw and met a hero, who happened to be bald, just like them. ~ Los Angeles Clippers Meet & Greet

With Charlie’s encouraging words, smile, and just mere presence, he made a positive difference in the lives of many children and their families. ~ Houston Rockets Meet & Greet

My daughter had a great time meeting other kids with alopecia and Charlie (the tallest man on the planet, according to my daughter). ~Golden State Warriors Meet & Greet

Many people in our group expressed that it was the highlight of their children’s lives and everyone was super appreciative that Charlie goes out of his way to attend the Meet and Greets in the various cities. ~ Detroit Pistons Meet & Greet

Everyone had a good time and Charlie was great! ~ Dallas Mavericks Meet & Greet
